Waialeale on Kauai is the wettest spot on Earth with average annual rainfall of some 450 inches. Molokai’s north shore claims the highest sea cliffs at more than 3,000 feet above the ocean.
Of the more than 7,000 marine species located in the Islands, some 25 percent are found nowhere else in the world. One such animal is the Hawaiian monk seal, which has been designated as the state’s official mammal.
